Super Quad 2022 Competition Winners – A.J. and the Crew of Mermaid

Super Quad Grande Finale Easter Fishing Competition

There were 243 participants and 75 boats that entered the final of the Super Quad Series 2022.

The conditions were rough but boats got out for the first few hours anyway and some braved the conditions and stayed out for most of the time. All 10 prizes were awarded for snapper, gurnard and kahawai, and 3 mackerel were caught in the featured species. Two 2 photographs were sent through   snapper over 600mm and as there was a 2mm difference we awarded prizes for both. First was Clem Goss from Delphin 4 and second was Dion Pene Gavin from Tauira.

There were 54 buckets weighed in for the 3 sisters competition that ran throughout the series. Rodney Caldow kindly craned the jet ski down for us this morning so we could present it to the winning skipper, AJ, and crew of Mermaid. Thanks so much to our fantastic Jet ski Sponsors – AFC Motorcycles, GH Engineering, Manawatu Security Fencing and Buy Wholesale Vehicles.

It was a fun night with poetry, jokes and Boat Bingo to keep us amused and Robin Hall did a great job as MC. It was a wonderful series overall and we thank our sponsors, committee, coastguard, radio operators, car park helpers, weigh station staff, bar and kitchen workers and all those who participated. It was a wonderful series!

Super Quad 3

It was another stunning day for the 3rd of our Super Quad Series 2022 held on March 19th. There were loads of fish caught in all 4 categories including the featured species ‘Tuna’.

66 boats entered and 206 fisher people enjoyed a clear blue-sky autumn day.

Thanks again to our many volunteers who manage the car park, weigh-station and food. We thank the fishing committee, Coastguard, Radio Operator, and kitchen and bar staff. WE couldn’t run this amazing event without them.

And to all our sponsors we say thank you again. Your support is very much appreciated.

Best Care Whakapai Hauora donated R.A.T packs as an addition to our skipper’s packs. They also freely distributed to our local community at the wharf during the day. WE thank them for supporting our wider community.

Super Quad 2

Due to the predicted wind speed the February Fishing Competition was cancelled but prize giving went ahead anyway, adapted to fit with the red level requirements.

It was a wonderful occasion and a great atmosphere.

All 100 prizes were given out as spot prizes and sponsors acknowledged for each and thanked in the usual way. Many happy fisher people walked away with quality fishing gear.

Thanks again to all these businesses – your support has allowed us to keep going when other events have been cancelled.
