Fishing Coordinator’s Report February 2023

It was a stunning day on Saturday 4 February and 194 fisher people, and 59 boats got out safely over a pretty lumpy bar.  On the other side of the bar the sea was calm, and every boat came back with a wonderful catch. It was just one of those dream fishing days!

Every person who entered received a Lure Lock clip in their skipper’s pack. This device clips onto your rod and keeps tackle from swinging around. Over 200 of these were donated by Philip Wilson who was also the radio operator on competition day. So, a big thank you to him! (www.lurelock.co.nz)

Big thanks also to Peter Rankin and Brendan O’Brien for their fabulous work on the breakfast BBQ (and providing a sausage sizzle for all at the Kids Fishing Competition the next day.) David and Poppy Clapperton from ITS provided amazing snacks from 2.30pm onwards and a wonderful dinner menu after 6pm.

Thanks again to our carpark team, weigh station team and Alma Lucas for preparing the sponsors’ platters. Thank you to Jo Roberts, our new secretary, for all her work with registrations, skippers’ packs and weigh-in entries. Lyal Brenton did an awesome job as MC and Brendan entertained with another money or the bag for spot prizes.

The Coastguard were great at assisting boats when needed and as always, the fishing committee and helpers worked well as a team to ensure the event ran smoothly.

We wouldn’t have a competition without the support of all our sponsors at all levels. So huge appreciation for all these sponsors and please support their businesses whenever you can.
