The members of the fishing committee have been very busy with the woman’s fishing competition that went really well and was blessed with good weather.
This was followed by the kids fishing at the wharf with 148 young anglers catching a wide range of fish from flounder, bullies, eels, mullet and of course plenty of herrings. All participants went away with a prize. Thank you to our greater community for supporting this event and the club members and also our Sponsors that helped make it so successful.
As you will be aware we have had 4 marlin landed at the wharf ranging in weight from 75kg to 128 kg. This is a first for the club though fishermen have reported seeing them during mid to late summer in the last couple of years. Even more where reported caught but lost in the battle to boat them. At the same time there have been large packs of albacore tuna from 30m out. Having caught a couple to eat, when opened I found them full of krill or baby squid. Remember to bleed them well cut out gills, stomach and pack with ice to have a nice feed.
Coming up is the first of our Quad series where you fish for snapper, gurnard and kahawai with a game fishing theme for albacore tuna, blue fin tuna, king fish and mackerel. NOTE we have now added marlin.
More information and Entry forms can be obtained on line or at the club rooms.
Finally, please look after newbies or visitors who are trying to cross the bar by simply calling them up if you see them going in the wrong direction to which > over the last week end I was aware of several grounding and a rolled boat.
NOTE the south channel does NOT exist at present.
