Congratulations to everyone who made it through to the end,  and thank you all for taking part in the Goodbye Pork Pie Car Rally.

Unfortunately, we do have some unfavourable news to share. Everyone involved has now been informed, and the issue has been corrected — yes, it did affect the winners.

During the marking process, one team’s run sheet was misplaced and not picked up until our double-check after prize-giving. We sincerely apologise to the four teams involved and will be changing the way we do things next time.

Congratulations to Team ‘Repeat Offenders’ — you are the winning team with a final score of 33 points. Back-to-back winners too, which definitely makes you a team to watch out for next time.

Once again, we were treated to a near-perfect autumn day to cruise around the towns and picnic in some new spots.

This year I mixed things up a bit. In the first half, you were driving around the beach collecting letters from street names to spell a secret phrase. Apologies to the residents of Mack Street who woke up to find their street decorated with orange builders pegs rammed into the ground — no, the council is not digging up your sewer lines on Monday. Then you all headed to Foxton where you had to solve a murder mystery picking up clues and codes as you drove around. We are pleased some of you haven’t recently joined the police force or been brushing up on your Cluedo skills.

It was great to see how many of you made such a big effort with your cars, your outfits, and your team spirit.

Jason, Simon, Phill and Rodney — top effort getting the Mini and police car to the start line. It genuinely felt like we were in the movie.

And to the home cooks who battled it out for best bacon and egg pie — only to be beaten by a first-time cook, or by the exact same pie entered by two different teams, with one getting a mention and the other missing out. A tough crowd, clearly.

To all the podium finishers, well done — we think some of you even amazed or amused yourselves.

A big thank you to all the helpers — Fiona, Brian, Barabara, Ann, Peter, Jay and the volunteer firefighters who bravely tasted and judged 22 pies. If you weren’t being a Russian spy, a Bobby or Tail-End Charlie, you were captains loading your ferry.
Libby, thank you for being fantastic the photographer.
I think we have recovered from it all now, and the nightmares have finally stopped.

All in all, we sincerely hope you all enjoyed the day. It takes a big effort to set up and deliver something like this, but it’s worth it to create a day everyone can enjoy.
