MMBC 2026 Ambrose Golf Tournament

The MMBC social club hosted its inaugural Ambrose golf competition in 2026. As this was this social club’s first time organising the tournament, the committee gained valuable insights and identified several areas for future improvement.

Weather and Atmosphere

The weather was spectacular, with conditions so ideal they could be described as “Goldilocks” – not too hot, not too cold, just right. While team participation was lower than in previous years, this did nothing to dampen the spirits of those vying to be crowned the 2026 Ambrose champions.

On-Course Activities

The tournament featured a drinks cart, expertly driven by Jay, who kept competitors refreshed and entertained throughout the day. In fact, the drinks cart’s popularity may have resulted in record refreshment sales for the golf club.

Three holes included alternative activities this year. The two Sues hosted a hacky sack throwing game, where Kevin Parsons won a $100 meal voucher. Fiona and Linda introduced a new game, “Whiskey or Water,” a putting challenge involving a wrinkly tin with various drop holes—this proved to be a popular stop, with plenty of whiskey consumed. Donna and her granddaughter ran the “Spinning Winning Wheel of Misfortune,” which offered over 30 possible actions. The most controversial was “plus 1 minus 1,” allowing players to transfer a point from their own score to another team, making the final scoring very close.

Donna also hosted the “HIT THE SIGN” challenge on hole 7, where participants aimed to strike a designated sign with their golf drive—a task that drew cheers and groans alike from the crowd. While several competitors narrowly missed out on the prize, Ross and Mike capitalised on the opportunity and each walked away with a $50 voucher, celebrating their success from the misfortune of others.

Post-Tournament Celebrations

After the day’s activities at Foxton Golf Course, participants gathered at the MMBC boating club. The kitchen team had prepared wonderful platters that satisfied the hungry golfers. This was followed by the much-anticipated prize giving.
